This year, Veranos de la Villa will once again have two months of cultural programming and will be held in different areas of the city. The festival, organized by the Area of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Madrid City Council, will offer a diverse, participatory and quality program, in which both national and international artists will meet. One of its objectives will be to consolidate the image of Madrid as a multicultural capital that welcomes reference proposals and proof of this will be the world premiere of 'Bounce by Circa', which will take place from July 7 to 18 in the Juan Carlos I park.

With the festival, the city will continue with its great cultural commitment. "If the city has been a benchmark for safe culture during the pandemic, now it also wants to be so during the post-pandemic and big events like this are an opportunity to do so," says Andrea Levy, delegate for Culture, Tourism and Sports at the Madrid City Council. In this edition of Veranos de la Villa, Circa Contemporary Circus, one of the most important performing arts companies in the world, joins forces with the English architecture studio AL_A, directed by Amanda Levete, to create a paradise that invites an immersive, highly sensorial and participatory experience.

‘Bounce by Circa’ takes place in a marquee designed by the AL_A studio. A unique space where the exterior is a striking constellation of chrome bubbles, an inflatable cloud-shaped structure, 15 meters high and 30 meters in diameter that reflects the environment around it, and the interior is a world of wonders and delights which houses the new creation of Circa Contemporary Circus.

Public participation

The giant inflatable structure can be entered through different entrances in small group passes, in order to respect health safety measures. Participants, who will enter this space with a mask, whose air will be completely renewed after each pass, will put on their headphones and will be transported to a totally immersive world. The ceilings and walls will rise and fall, the lights and colors will transform, the acrobats will demonstrate their skills and, of course, the audience will be able to accompany them in the jumps and jumps.

On the same dates that ARCOmadrid 2021 will take place, this unique ephemeral architecture can be enjoyed in the Juan Carlos I park. For Ángel Murcia, the artistic director of the festival, “it is a special way of adding contemporary art to the city of Madrid and invite its visitors to discover this activity that turns a stage into a work of art”.

This show is Circa's most ambitious proposal so far, a benchmark for the new wave of Australian circus, and after its world premiere in Madrid it will be installed in Paris, to be part of the Paris I'été Festival, Salzburg, Venice, Stuttgart, Cardiff, Groningen and London.
